Michele Heights is a social housing community located in the west-end of Ottawa. There are around 130 family units with approximately 500 people. Many are children and youth, single parents, and new immigrants. The community was built in the 1970′s to serve the growing need for affordable housing in Ottawa. Most residents have lived in the community for an average of eight years and speak a total of 19 languages. They often express positive feelings about living in Michele Heights. “People are connected, it has developed into a trusting place to live”.
The Mission of the Michele Heights Community House is to improve the quality of life for all by building a better, safer and healthier community.
The Mandate of the Michele Heights Community House is to identify the needs of the community, provide resources and support to low-income families, build community capacity and foster a warm and welcoming environment for all. The Community House is driven through community involvement in all parts of the process. Community Houses are often the first points of contact for many people seeking information, assistance or referrals. We operate as “neighborhoods” centers which mean increased accessibility of services and programs. Community Houses are central to community building and rely on community involvement
Community House staff are available at the Community House to answer any questions about resources available at the community, Pinecrest- Queensway Community Health Center, and Ottawa Community Housing.

There are over 460 residents living in the Michele Heights community. Children and youth represent 48% of the population. Children (aged12 and under) represent 33% and youth (aged 13-18) represent 15% of the community.
Michele Heights is located close to store and restaurant on Carling Avenue, and to the Bayshore Shopping Mall and Britannia Cineplex. Adjacent to Michele Heights is a Community Centre with a playground and organized children’s activities. The Michele Heights Community House is located in a converted three-bedroom townhouse and offers programs and services to all OCH tenants in the community.
